This might be a variation of the same idea: Ability to have checkboxes field in addition to dropdown. The user interface with the restriction of a single select is quite poor. Example: Present users a list of all days of the week and allow them to choose multiple days...(this is on a registration form for kids tennis lessons) its terrible when trying to implement with dropdowns.
I also dont believe multi-select dropdowns work well on mobile?
