Changes to membership directories visible to users

There are several changes to the way you handle membership directories which would make them far more useful. As it is we are forced to kind of jump through hoops to get a bare approximation to what we really want - and it's only an approximation.

  • Add the membership type to a user accessible membership directory. It's available to admins and should also be accessible to users. As it is, the only way we can provide a user with a directory of say just club members is to create a stand-alone directory of club members. Likewise for guests or homeowners association members. If the membership field was part of the directory, then a user could search or filter on that field to find all club members easily.
  • The point above also requires that you support search and filtering options on all fields in the directory, not just the subset you have now. So we need to be able to sort and filter also on rating and membership type.

As it is now, we have to create multiple different directories, one for each type of membership and for some bizarre reason, when you do this, the directories are placed under Groups instead of Members. The very least you could do would be to place the multiple directories under Members which makes far more sense than under Groups but that's just a Band-Aid. The real solution is to implement the two points listed above: add the membership type to the directory and allow it and all fields to be searched or filtered. Also, I'm not sure that it really makes sense or is useful for you to automatically create a new Menu item whether it be Groups or Members just because we created a member directory. Why not just let us place it where we want instead of creating a whole new Menu tab for just that one thing?
