Membership Changes NOT updating Fees in Events/Reservations

Annette Moore 3 years ago in Events / Programming updated by Kevin Richards 3 weeks ago 4

We have basically 2 membership categories. First, a membership that pays no monthly/annual fees, just pays as they play - $10 to sign up for an event and $10 to make a reservation. Second, memberships that DO pay a monthly/annual fee (i.e. $50 a month) and this membership provides unlimited play for events/reservations. So what happen was, we had a person sign up for the $50 a month membership, and then just before it was to renew, they sign up for a number of events (30 days out) and reservations (7 days out), which were ALL free of charge because when they signed up for these it was based on the $50 membership. Instead of renewing the $50 monthly membership, they then cancelled their $50 monthly membership and went to a Guest (pay as you go), but the system did not update this member's event charge for those future events and reservations they had signed up for.  Therefore, instead of them being charged $10 for these events they attended while being under a Guest membership type, they were free of charge because they signed up for them while under the $50 monthly membership.

Waiting on Votes

Annette,

Not sure we have enough clients that would like to fact that event fees would dynamically be changed based on membership, plus that is pretty complicated to handle.  I'll set this to waiting on votes, for now, to see how much interest this picks up.

We've also begun to run into this.  Or rather, we've only recently become aware of this happening, and it's likely that it has happened a lot.  If members figure out that they can sign up for a monthly membership, book a bunch of reservations with the benefits of the membership, then cancel the membership and still have the future reservations with benefits that they should no longer have access to, then this could become a bigger issue for us.

Kevin and Annette,

As I was reviewing this, I agree this is a hole, but the easier way to handle it is NOT to allow a player with a paid membership to cancel memberships with outstanding bookings and to display a message—"Warning: You have outstanding bookings in the future. If you cancel your memberships, your future bookings will be canceled. Are you sure?"

This is MUCH easier and much less complex from a tech standpoint to go back in and adjust pricing.

Thoughts?
Tim

Since we switched to annual memberships and don't offer monthly ones anymore, I don't think this is much of an issue for us anymore.  But I think your solution makes sense Tim.
